CNC Turning Service for Shafts, Sleeves and Rotational Parts

CNC turning for rotational components

ExactMach coordinates suitable manufacturing partners for custom CNC-turned parts. Turning is commonly reviewed for shafts, pins, sleeves, rings, spacers, threaded components and other rotational geometries.

The quotation process is based on the controlled drawing, material, quantity, tolerance, surface finish, inspection and delivery requirements for the individual project.

Parts commonly reviewed

  • Shafts, pins and axles
  • Sleeves, bushings and spacers
  • Rings and collars
  • Threaded and turned fittings
  • Sensor and motion-system components
  • Prototype and low-volume rotational parts

What to include in a turning RFQ

Provide the latest 2D drawing and a matching CAD model where useful. State the material grade, quantity, thread standard, critical diameters, runout or concentricity requirements, surface finish, heat treatment, inspection documents and destination.

Identify mating parts and functional interfaces. A shaft diameter, bearing seat or sealing surface may require more control than a non-functional external surface.

Key turning review points

A project-specific review considers:

  • Diameter, length-to-diameter ratio and slender features
  • Threads, grooves, bores and internal access
  • Datum references and concentricity requirements
  • Material and cutting behavior
  • Workholding and setup sequence
  • Surface finish and deburring requirements
  • Inspection equipment and acceptance method

A requested tolerance or runout value should not be promised before the drawing and inspection method are reviewed.

Material and finishing coordination

Aluminium 6061 and 7075, 45 steel, SK2 steel and other materials may be considered subject to RFQ review and supplier confirmation. Anodizing, heat treatment and other finishing requirements can be coordinated when suitable for the selected material and part.

The final finish, dimensional effect and documentation should be agreed before production. ExactMach does not assume every partner can process every material or finish.

Quality and delivery coordination

Critical dimensions and functional surfaces can be identified before quotation. Inspection reports, material documents and packaging requirements may be included when confirmed for the project. Lead time and shipping coordination are confirmed against the final material, quantity, process and inspection plan.

FAQ

Can turned parts include milling features?

Parts with both rotational and milled features can be reviewed. The drawing should identify the secondary features and their relationship to the turning datums.

What should I specify for a shaft?

Include material, diameters, lengths, fits, threads, runout or concentricity, surface finish, heat treatment and inspection requirements where applicable.

How do I request a review?

Send the drawing, CAD model, quantity, material and destination for a project-specific feasibility review.
