CUSTOM CNC PARTS / CNC MACHINING INSIGHTS
Brackets appear straightforward, but their hole positions, mounting faces and assembly clearances often determine whether the final system aligns. A useful bracket RFQ makes those functional relationships visible before CNC machining starts.
Define how the bracket locates in the assembly
Show which face sits against the frame, which holes locate the part, and which features simply provide clearance. A simple assembly image or mating-part reference can eliminate guesswork when the drawing alone does not explain orientation. The most important dimensions are usually those that control the relationship between mounting faces and hole patterns.
The ASME Y14.5 overview provides context for the drawing conventions used to communicate functional geometric relationships.
Call out the hole pattern completely
For every mounting hole, identify the required condition: through hole, tapped hole, counterbore, countersink, slot, or clearance feature. Use a datum scheme that makes the position of the pattern inspectable. If a hardware item controls the feature, include its reference or a drawing note that explains the assembly condition.
| Bracket feature | What to include in the RFQ |
|---|---|
| Mounting face | Which surface establishes the assembly and any flatness or cosmetic requirement. |
| Hole pattern | Feature type, position reference, quantity and thread or counterbore details. |
| Slots and clearance | Functional purpose and the direction of permitted adjustment. |
| Material and finish | Required alloy or grade plus anodizing or other specified finishing. |
| Visible faces | Which surfaces are appearance-critical and how they should be protected. |
Use sections for stepped or hidden features
Brackets can have counterbores, pockets, ribs, threads and recessed mounting surfaces that are hard to read in an isometric model. Add clear section views and dimensions in the released PDF drawing. Use our guide to CAD files to include with a CNC RFQ to assemble a more reviewable package.
Connect material and finish to the application
Identify the requested material grade, finish, and any surface that must remain protected. ExactMach has experience machining 6061 and 7075 aluminum grades and can coordinate anodizing and heat-treatment support where required. If the part needs a controlled cosmetic face, thread masking, or a special contact surface, put that note in the drawing or RFQ.
Keep edge notes practical
Use a general deburr note for ordinary edges, but dimension a chamfer or radius if it serves an assembly function. This is especially important around mounting faces, slots and interfaces where a generic edge treatment could change the way the bracket seats. Our CNC deburring and edge-break guide explains the distinction.
Focus inspection on assembly-critical features
Identify the hole positions, contact faces or interfaces that must be verified before shipment. ExactMach coordinates drawing-defined CNC milling, CNC turning, prototypes and custom parts around Shenzhen and Dongguan, including inspection and finishing coordination for international orders.
