CNC Part Quantity Changes: What to Reconfirm Before Releasing an Updated Order

RFQ CONTROL / CNC MACHINING INSIGHTS

A quantity change can look commercial, but it should not disconnect the order from its released drawing package. Before an updated CNC order is released, confirm that the part revision, material, finish and inspection expectations are still the intended ones.

Keep the controlled revision unchanged unless the design changes

When quantity alone changes, reference the approved drawing revision rather than creating an ambiguous new file name. If geometry, material, finish or a critical note changes at the same time, issue a controlled revision and identify the affected requirement.

Our revision control guide explains how to keep models, PDFs and RFQ references aligned.

Reconfirm what the quantity affects

  • Released model and PDF drawing revision
  • Material and finish callouts
  • Critical features and inspection expectations
  • Packaging and destination requirements for the order

For international orders, packaging requirements deserve the same clear reference as the drawing. See our international CNC packaging guide.

Do not use email as the only technical record

Email can explain the quantity update, but the controlled drawing package should retain the final manufacturing requirements. If an update changes a critical feature, identify it before production release and include the relevant inspection expectation.

Our inspection requirements guide outlines the details that help a review team focus on functional features.

Release check: confirm quantity, controlled drawing revision, material, finish, critical notes, packaging and destination together before the order is released.
