CNC Drawing Units: A Simple RFQ Check That Prevents Wrong Dimensions

DRAWING DETAILS / CNC MACHINING INSIGHTS

A drawing can contain complete dimensions and still create an RFQ problem if its units are unclear. Confirming units is a small release check that keeps the model, PDF and quote review on the same basis.

State units in the controlled drawing

Make the unit system visible in the released PDF drawing and ensure the CAD model uses the same intended scale. Do not rely on a filename, email note or a previous revision to communicate a production requirement.

Check the model and PDF together

Send both when available. The model supports geometry review; the PDF records dimensions, material, finish and notes. Our CAD file guide explains the role of each file.

Keep revisions aligned

If units or any dimension changes, issue a controlled revision and remove superseded files from the RFQ package. See our revision control guide for a practical release process.

RFQ check: identify drawing units, send the matching model and PDF, confirm the current revision, and flag any dimensions that control fit or assembly.

Make the requirement unambiguous

ExactMach coordinates drawing-defined CNC milling, CNC turning, prototypes and custom parts around Shenzhen and Dongguan for international orders. A clear unit declaration helps establish the released requirement before production begins.
